The introduction to most Sideways artists is ultimately quite simple: we describe the artist's music and past achievements, and hopefully give you an idea of what it's all about. Then there are special cases like The Armed, whose concept would require writing a short story to describe it, just to get to the beginning of the story. But let's try!
Detroit-based The Armed, finally arriving in Finland, is usually categorised as a punk band, but over the years the band's expression has varied from melodic punk rock to buzzing indie rock, from brutal metal to gritty post-hardcore, and from electronic expression to psychedelic noiserock. And everything in between.
Especially in the early days of their career, the anonymous collective used fake names and had actors do interviews on their behalf, among other things, to keep the magic of mystery alive. Now the veil of secrecy has been lifted a little, and The Armed have started to tour more actively. The collective attitude is reinforced by the numerous guests they have heard on record and on stage, including members of Converge, Jane's Addiction, Beck, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age and countless other bands.
The Armed's latest album, Perfect Saviors, which was released last year, concluded a trilogy of albums about contemporary popular culture, the infinite information flood and human achievement. The album is, in the band's own words, their sincere attempt to create the biggest and most powerful rock album of the 21st century.
