SIDEWAYS FESTIVAL’S LINE-UP DOUBLES WITH 20 NEW NAMES
Sideways, already featuring a diverse lineup, has announced 20 new names. Helsinki's festival season kicks off with a bang as grunge and alternative rock icon L7 (US), the hip-hop duo Armand Hammer (US) formed by billy woods and Elucid, and the mysterious collective The Armed (US) with their recent album Perfect Saviors, which was one of the most significant punk rock releases of the past year, join the program.
Additionally, the lineup is strengthened with current top Finnish names, including the phenomenal singer-songwriter Vesta, this year’s UMK competitor Jesse Markin, the soft-voiced sensation pehmoaino who gained unprecedented popularity with their debut album in January, and internationally acclaimed Oranssi Pazuzu, returning to Finnish stages after almost a two-year hiatus.
The Finnish rap scene is represented by Asa, F, Yeboyah, and Aaro630, each addressing societal issues effectively. Adding punk and rock to Nordis are the outspoken Huora band, the thunderous rock trio Räjäyttäjät, and the delightfully ironic and activist Luukas Oja.
Sideways showcases breathtaking songwriting and storytelling skills with acts like the bedroom pop duo emma & matilda, queer love and the climate crisis exploring Elsi Sloan, the mystical and minimalist M, and the indie-folk group Viitasen Piia.
Instrumental mastery will be presented by the magical Finnish folk enseble Pekko Käppi & K:H:H:L and the Virta trio, introducing elements of psyche and ambient jazz tradition.
The Sideways lineup will continue to expand with numerous artists announced throughout Winter and Spring.
